International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme

From September 2020, we begin our journey to offering the International Baccalaureate (IB) Middle Years Programme (MYP), and will be the only state provision in the UK to offer the MYP, the IB Diploma Programme (DP) and the IB Career-related Programme (CP). Students in Years 7, 8 and 9 at the College will follow the MYP before moving on to their GCSEs.

The curriculum

The knowledge, skills and attributes developed while studying the MYP prepare our students to meet the academic challenges of the DP and the CP, which they will go on to study at our sixth form, Impington International College.

The MYP is a framework of education that encourages students to make practical connections between their studies and the real world. Through our teaching of the MYP, we aim to demonstrate to our students their impact on the world around them, connecting the dots of their learning and developing their knowledge and skills in unfamiliar contexts. The MYP curriculum prepares students for a world beyond the classroom, and helps learners develop a personal understanding and a sense of responsibility within the wider community.

The MYP’s curriculum framework comprises eight subject groups. It provides a broad and balanced education for students and develops learners who are creative, critical and reflective thinkers. Students will study the following subject groups:

  • Language and Literature
  • Language Acquisition
  • Mathematics
  • Sciences
  • Individuals and Societies (incorporating History and Geography)
  • Arts (Drama, Dance, Music and Visual Arts)
  • Design (Digital and Product design)
  • Physical and Health Education

Questions answered

The Pavilion

The Pavilion is a purpose built accommodation, supporting the physical and medical needs of students with SEND so that they are able to participate as fully as possible in College life. It is an Enhanced Resource Base (ERB) and so provides additional support to those with more complex SEND, in particular those with physical disabilities.

The Pavilion is located in a central part of the College and has four classrooms, a physiotherapy room, accessible kitchen area and fully equipped bathroom area. Equipment and resources facilitate the delivery of alternative curricular activities and therapies as required by each individual student. For more information about SEND at Impington Village College, please see our SEND Information Report.
