Hear from the Principal 01.07.21

I’m incredibly proud to share news about our students’ latest award-winning achievements this week as well as updates from our recent fieldtrips, in Cambridgeshire and Suffolk, and important dates for your diaries.

Engineering her own success

Our own Avni B. was crowned one of the regional champions of the international First Lego League tournament on 24 June. Avni and her team, Cambourne Engineering and Robotics Club, won the STEM competition with their robotic creation and will be representing Cambridgeshire at a national level. We wish her and the rest of the team the best of luck in the next stage of the competition!

Adventures in the field

Time outside of the classroom environment is vital for providing students with opportunities to create meaningful connections between their studies and the impact on the community. I’m delighted that our Year 12 Geography students were able to map the impact of the pandemic on land use in central Cambridge during a recent fieldtrip. Despite one broken umbrella and 10 disintegrated booklets, the group successfully examined urban indicators and proved their tenacity in adverse conditions – the true test of geographers!

Despite the weather, last week also saw students undertaking ESS fieldwork in Suffolk to enhance their practical skills in kick-sampling, which saw them catch a small fish, as well as transecting the saltmarsh to record plant samples. A private tour of Woodbridge Tide Mill followed, with students enjoying the insight into how tidal energy is harnessed for practical applications.

We look forward to our students reaping the benefits of more practical experiences to complement their classroom learning.

Stars of the stage – Summer Show tickets now on sale

Tickets are now on sale for our Summer Show, ‘Come Alive’; a celebration of life after the pandemic performed by students from Year 7 to Year 14 in their first live performance since December 2019! Taking place in the Gropius Hall, the show will be live with a reduced audience of half capacity. Don’t miss out on seeing our stars on stage, you can book your ticket here.

Year 10 Taster Day

Impington International College will welcome 180 of our students on Friday 2 July for their Year 10 Taster Day. The Taster Day is a fantastic way for students to learn more about life at the Sixth Form as well as answer any questions they may have about the International Baccalaureate (IB) programmes and how the curriculum can be tailored to their passions and hobbies. I hope the day proves to be a useful, and enjoyable, experience. You can find out more about the admissions process here: https://www.impingtoninternational.org.uk/admissions/

IB Results Day

I would like to wish all of our IB students the very best of luck for the upcoming results day on 6 July – the hard work and dedication they have displayed over the past year is remarkable and they should be very proud of themselves and their achievements.
