Hear from the Principal 26.05.21

I can’t believe that we are already at the end of May and approaching our final Half Term of the academic year – what a year it has been! On behalf of everyone at Impington Village College, I would like to extend a heartfelt thank you for your continued support throughout the start of the Summer Term. We hope you have a wonderful week and look forward to welcoming students back on Monday 7 June.

The votes are in…

I want to start my blog by thanking all of the candidates who have worked so hard campaigning for the iSLT elections. On Monday of this week, 942 of our Year 7 – 10 students chose from eight fantastic Year 10 candidates to form their student leadership team. I am pleased to share that our iSLT representatives are: Nicholas W., Misa H., Isabel M. and Katie D. – congratulations all!

COVID-19 update

As lockdown restrictions continue to ease, I wanted to take the time to share the update that students no longer have to wear masks; staff and visitors will continue wearing where social distancing cannot be maintained. In the same vein, I would like to kindly remind you on the importance of twice-weekly testing for the safety and protection of you and your family as well as our learning community as a whole.

The final countdown

This wasn’t the final year experience that we wanted for our Year 11’s, however, the students have still been able to undertake a range of activities now their assessments have finished. From critical thinking to CV writing, and the upcoming Year 11 Sports Day (COVID-19 permitting), the Year 11s have been busy and we look forward to welcoming the students back for their garden party in July.

UKMT Maths Challenge

Huge congratulations to all of the Year 7 and 8 students who took part in the UKMT Junior Maths Challenge last month. I am pleased to share that several of our students did so well that they have secured places for the next round of the competition. Congratulations Cara B., Elliot D., Benjamin G., Nas R. and Jake S.!

Neve E. and Fin S. have also been invited to take part in an even more challenging competition, The Maths Olympiad, after achieving a gold certificate for being the highest performing in their respective years!

IB student UK university outcomes

A new study has been published by the International Baccalaureate (IB), which compares how IB Diploma Programme students perform at universities compared to A Level students. I am pleased to share that IB students are three times more likely to attend a top 20 UK university; are 40% more likely to obtain a first or upper second class degree; and are 38% more likely than A Level peers to be engaged with further study post-graduation. Find out more information on the Diploma Programme.

Our international links

We are proud of the international links that we offer students at the College. Most recently, our Year 9s enjoyed a virtual lesson with English club students at our partner school in Morioka, Japan. Keep your eyes peeled for more updates!

DfE Workload Reduction Toolkit

To conclude, I am thrilled to share that we have been chosen by the Department for Education to represent the East of England and North East London regions for the System Leaders – Workload Reduction Toolkit Refresh’ project. The project will be completed during this term and the toolkit will be published in Autumn 2021 – we can’t wait to get started!
