Return to College

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]It has been fantastic to have our students and staff back in College as a full community over the last two weeks. We have been incredibly impressed with the conduct of our students around the College site, and the quick way they have adapted to the new systems. We ran a fire drill this morning in the new area of the field behind the Orchard, and with students lining up in year groups rather than Houses. As always, the students were very prompt and sensible; we had all our students lined up in silence on the field seven minutes after the alarm was sounded.

Social Media/Website

Those of you who have visited the website in the last day or so will notice we have given it a revamp over the summer. We hope you will find it easier to navigate and to access the information you need. We have also changed the format of the Parent Handbook, moving to a Dropbox of relevant documents. Finally, you will also be able to see more frequent updates on social media about all things Impington, please follow us on Facebook (Impington Village College/Impington International College), Instagram and Twitter (@ImpingtonVC/@ImpingtonIntCol).

This fortnight in College

Last week we had our first iCAS session of the new term, with students off to enjoy a range of experiences from Fencing and Origami to Pottery, Manga and Sign Language. Our Year 7s have started work towards their House Charities projects, allowing them to spend time working together as a team in their tutor group and to get to know their House Teams and the charitable causes supported. We are really pleased to be continuing with iCAS despite the restrictions in place because we feel it is an important part of our curriculum offer.

Over the next fortnight our staff will be involved in a range of professional learning opportunities, including the official introduction to the International Baccalaureate (IB) Middle Years Programme (MYP), which will be launching as our new KS3 curriculum from September 2021. We are incredibly excited about the redevelopment of the curriculum, being led by Ms Sale and Mrs Trickey (our new MYP Co-ordinator). As well as providing a fantastic experience for our students, it will put Impington Village College on the national map as we become the only state school in the UK to offer the IB Middle Years, Diploma and Career-related Programmes, which is very exciting indeed.

What is your role in College?

My role in College is Principal, which means that I oversee all aspects of life at Impington Village College and Impington International College. I started in this role in September 2020, although I am by no means new to the College!

How long have you been at IVC, and what did you do before you joined?

I have just entered my seventh year at the College, having been Vice Principal and Assistant Principal during that time. Before joining Impington Village College I lived in Oxford (where I trained to be a teacher) and worked as a History Teacher and then a Director of Learning (Head of Year).

What do you like most about IVC?

I love everything about it! We are incredibly lucky to have a fantastic body of students and an equally fantastic body of staff. I am also incredibly proud to lead an IB World School and believe that this is one of the very best things about Impington. I am excited to continue to champion the IB ethos and to make sure that this is intrinsic to everything we do. I am proud that we are able to celebrate academic excellence for all of our students, regardless of their starting points, but also offer them the very best experiences and to allow them to develop hobbies and interests that we hope will stay with them for life.

What do you enjoy in your spare time?

I enjoy travelling (when I can!), cooking and spending time with my husband and daughter.
