Bauhaus School of Architecture Centenary and IVC 80th Birthday
The Cultural Diversity Committee at Impington Village College, marked the Bauhaus School of Architecture centenary and it's Colleges' 80th birthday by putting on an International Bauhaus Evening Event on Thursday 18th July 2019.
The main part of the Impington Village College had been designed by Walter Gropius, founder of the Bauhaus School and his partner Maxwell Fry in 1939.
The evening showcased work created by various students and staff from the Design and Technology and Art department at IVC, as well as a few pieces of work from local residents of Histon and Impington. The Prom area was set up with the main display of Year 9 students lamp creations, inspired by their chosen artist, architect or designer from the Bauhaus school. There was an emotive performance by the IVC Performance School in the style of Bauhaus theatre, and the Gropius Main Hall had been set up with an exhibition of work, as well as two guest speakers from the design and architectural industry who happen to be ex-students from IVC, who talked about the history of Bauhaus and its influence in design today.
A successful evening that allowed students, staff and local residents to talk and view beautiful work, in helping to keep Bauhaus alive at IVC one hundred years later.
