Impington Village College

Sponsored Walk 2016

Following the tremendous success of last year’s event, we are planning to undertake a sponsored walk at the end of the summer term on Wednesday 20 July 2016.

On Wednesday 20 July, all of Years 7, 8, 9, 10 and 12 will be striding out on an approximately 10-mile route, having collected sponsorship before the day. For some students, a shorter walk will be available if appropriate.

In collaboration with the Student Executive, we have decided the money raised will be equally split between:

•           Young Minds (a young person’s mental health charity)

•           Teenage Cancer Trust

•           Improved facilities in communal areas around the College

•           Improving resources at our link school in Bishofti, Ethiopia

It will be possible to donate money using the PSFA’s MyDonate page which will mean that the College can claim Gift Aid (an additional 25%) on the donation.

Each student completing the sponsored walk will receive 5 house points. Students will also receive an additional 5 house points for each £10 raised in sponsorship.

During the event the PFSA will be selling cold soft drinks, snacks and Ice creams at Oakington recreation ground and on return to IVC and so students may wish to bring a small amount of money with them. The profits from this will go towards our good causes.

For the walk, students need to remember that comfortable shoes are essential. Students need to dress appropriately for the weather on the day: sun cream will be essential if hot; water proof clothing if damp! Bottles of water will also be important. All students should bring a packed lunch to eat at the lunch site. Those students who receive free school meals will have lunch provided and delivered to the lunch site.

The day will begin with registration and then students will head out in groups to start the course. We will break at a designated point on the route for lunch and registration, before heading back to the College site prior to 3pm. All students will need to register once again when they return to IVC at the end of the walk. The route will be supervised by marshals, and teachers will also be accompanying the students as they walk.

We are confident the College can make a significant contribution to both national and international charities whilst also improve the experiences for students at IVC through this event, and we look forward to everyone’s support in raising money and contributing to the day.
