  • ParentView - Feedback for IVC

    Published 15/01/18

    Dear Parents/Carers,

Today has been given the dismal moniker of Blue Monday, a name with even more unpleasant connotation for me as a fervent Manchester United fan.  Thankfully, the staff at IVC are far more cheerful so that we can ignore the blatant advertising gimmick of travel agents everywhere and encourage the students to approach the New Year with real enthusiasm and reflection.

It is with reflection and self-improvement in mind that causes me to write to you.  Parent View is a website that gathers parental feedback on 12 questions that can be used to help review how a school is perceived to be performing by its community.  These 12 questions, outlined below, are also used by us as part of our self-evaluation with students within college.

At the moment, for this academic year, we have 4 responses from parents and as a result we cannot see any feedback.  It would be hugely useful for us if we could have an increase in responses by parents during this week to enable us to carry out our on-going self-evaluation throughout this term.

The survey is very easy to access at and all you need to do in order to leave feedback is to be a parent of a child attending the college and have an email address.

Once you have registered you are asked to search for the college (you can use either the name or the post code, CB24 9LX) and then you are asked to complete the 12 questions.

You have the option to sign up for an alert which will notify you when the results for IVC become publically available and when the number of results changes in the future – you can opt in for this and select the relevant frequency of notification or you can opt out.

The national average for response rates for the survey is 4.2% which seems very low indeed.  Our target for this January is promote the awareness of Parent View so that we can encourage 10% of our parents to leave feedback on what we are doing well.

Could you please take the 5 minutes necessary to register on the Parent View website and leave your feedback?  If you want to expand on the feedback or want to provide us with more detail then please do not hesitate to contact us.

    Yours sincerely,

    Simon Warburton

  • Ofsted Inspection Dashboard Update

    Published 15/01/18

    Last week saw the release of the latest Ofsted Inspection Data Dashboard.  It contains a whole raft of information that Ofsted use to risk assess the effectiveness of schools and prioritise the inspection visits for the future months.  Overall our dashboard is incredibly positive with vast swaths of green (green highlighted cells are strengths in this report) across a range of indicators.  Particular strenghts mentioned were;

We are now identified as a consistently high performing school - one of the strongest non-selective schools in the country for student progress

    • Progress8 for all students was at 0.7 and for more able students (roughly half the cohort) it was 0.8
    • Our ‘more able’ students were in the top 3% of students in the country
    • Reminder: nearly 15% of students achieved the new super grade 9
    • Value Added score for Science for all students was in the top 4% for the country, more able top 2%
    • Value Added score for Humanities for all students was in the top 10% for the country

A huge congratulations to all the students, staff and parents who made these results possible.  We are all working flat out to make sure that the results this year make it three-in-a-row for outstanding progress and attainment at IVC.

  • Year 8 to 9 Options Book

    Published 15/01/18

We are delighted to release our new publication, ‘Choices’, which is our guide for Year 8 parents to the curriculum at Key Stage 4. As a Leadership Team we have worked to transform the curriculum offer for our students, which we will be launching ready for September 2018. This is part of our commitment to ensuring that our students have a truly excellent experience at the College, as well as making outstanding progress. Our new curriculum has the College’s values of ‘inclusive, inspirational and international’ at its heart, and draws heavily on the best elements of the International Baccalaureate, which is delivered in our outstanding sixth form. An IB World School, we are one of just 68 state schools in the UK with this accolade and we believe totally in the IB’s mission to develop a love of learning and to create a better world through education.

We are particularly excited about the introduction of the IVC Core, which sits at the very heart of our new curriculum, throughout years 7-11. As part of this, we are launching iCAS (Impington Creativity, Activity and Service), a new, timetabled enrichment programme that all our students (from year 7 up into the sixth form) will participate in on a Wednesday afternoon. Delivered by our staff, this programme will include a huge range of activities, from Italian, pottery, Aikido, Greek Philosophy and Creative Writing to Sports Leadership, Peer Mentoring and Archaeology.

We will be rolling out details of our new curriculum at Parents’ Evenings throughout the year. If you would like more information about the curriculum, please contact Victoria Hearn, Vice Principal.
