Impington Village College wins national awards for excellent results

Impington Village College has been recognised nationally for its excellent results in 2017 based on data from the Department of Education and Ofsted, analysed by SSAT (the Schools, Students and Teachers network). Impington Village College was found to be among the best performing secondary schools in the country, receiving two awards for being in the top 10% of non-selective schools nationally for attainment and progress.

The SSAT Educational Outcomes database compares all state-funded schools in England, with the highest performing for a range of key measures presented with SSAT Educational Outcomes Awards, sponsored by Lexonik. Impington Village College will be presented with their awards in the summer term at a ceremony attended by winners from across the region.

Sue Williamson, Chief Executive of SSAT said:

“I am delighted that Impington Village College has won two Educational Outcomes Awards. This recognises an important aspect of the schools’ work, but, as we know, there is much more to recognise in a good school like Impington Village College. SSAT is pleased to recognise the quality of leadership and the hard work of all staff to ensure the success of every child. A big thank you and well done to pupils, parents, staff and governors.”

  • Science faculty teams up with Tassomai Learning Programme

    Published 19/10/17

This week the IVC Science department were excited to launch the use of a program called Tassomai with our Year 10 and 11 students.

Tassomai has taken each Science syllabus and broken it down into quizzable micro-facts, covering everything students need to know for their exams. These quizzes are multiple-choice and can be used on any internet-enabled device.  The algorithm adapts to what the students already understand and what they don’t yet master. The program then prioritises topics based on where the students are struggling and gradually increases the demand of new content, whilst interspersing previously covered material to boost recall and retention, to ensure the best possible preparation for the summer exams.

Research has found that targeted repetition, done little and often, is the most effective and efficient way to implant knowledge and prepare for exams, and this is exactly the method applied by Tassomai. According to Tassomai 95% of students who used Tassomai regularly achieved a C or higher in 2016 (and 56% got an A or A*).

Additionally, Science teachers will be able to log in to Tassomai and analyse each individual student and class’s understanding. Teachers will then be able to target their intervention based on this information and focus on those topics which we know the students are struggling to grasp.

Completing Tassomai quizzes has now replaced traditional Science homework at KS4 and students are expected to log on to Tassomai daily for around 10 minutes to complete their quizzes. Students can simply track their progress for course completion by using the performance wheel. By keeping the wheel green or blue, students can ensure that they will have covered the whole course before their exams in the summer of Year 11. The Science department is looking forward to seeing an improvement in knowledge recall in the weeks and months to come, as well as having students who are more confident in their knowledge.

  • Epraise Reward System Progress

    Published 19/10/17

One half term in and our students are really getting to grips with the new rewards system in school.  Merits are issued for a range of reasons including rewarding the quality of work, contributing the college community and making great progress in a lesson.

So far over 30 000 merits have been issued averaging at approximately 23 per student and a quick look at the student leaderboard will tell you that some students are well above the average score for merits this term.

We have lauched the Prize draws this week with students, after meeting specific criteria regarding attendance, merits and behaviour points, in the pot for a £20 Amazon voucher.  Students can of course "cash in" their merits for a range of rewards in our epraise shop such as early entry into the dining hall, chocolate bar or gym/swim session (to counter the chocolate) or even shoping vouchers at the Grafton Centre.

Please support our rewards system by discussing your child's progress and by logging into the site as a parent to review their awarded points.
