We are offering a small programme to start off with in the autumn term. We hope to be able to add more courses to our programme as time goes on.
All courses that run will follow the rules and restrictions that are in place for your safety and our instructors/tutors.
We are looking forward to seeing you all again on one of our courses.

Parking
Free parking is available at the College on the hard playground area and at the front of the College.
Transport
There is a bus stop right outside the College. The College is on the Citi 8 route.
We are only a short walk away from the Guided Bus stop (1 mile). Please contact the office for directions to get to the College from the stop in Histon.
Closure of College
In the event of severe weather conditions that could result in school closure, please check the website or tune into local radio for up-to-date information.

Insurance and losses
The College cannot accept responsibility for loss of personal property left on the premises, nor for damage to cars and bicycles.
No smoking
Government Legislation, introduced on 1st July 2007, places a total ban on smoking in public places. Impington Village College operates a No Smoking policy. Learners wishing to smoke are asked to do so away from the immediate vicinity of the College.
General Data Protection Regulation
All students will be required to complete an enrolment form for the course they are attending. Details are governed by the General Data Protection Regulation. Privacy Notice can be found at the bottom of this page.
Safeguarding
We have made arrangements to ensure that you are safe at our centre. If you feel you are not safe for any reason, for example through verbal or physical abuse or you have been discriminated against, tell your tutor or the Centre Manager. We will investigate and try to resolve the situation.
Language courses
If you are unsure about the level of your language skills, please speak to the office and we will ask tutors to contact you to discuss your needs further.
For guidance:
- Beginner – No experience necessary
- Improver – 50-60 hours prior experience required
- Intermediate – 120 hours prior experience required
- Advanced or conversation – Over 120 hours prior experience required
To attend our courses, you must book in advance. Please note that places on our courses are only secure upon receipt of full payment. To avoid disappointment, it is advisable to book early.

Acrylic painting and drawing - improvers
Tuesday 22 September for 10 weeks; 9.30am – 11.30am; £120
This course is suitable for learners with basic drawing and painting skills, who have developed the necessary skills and knowledge to progress to an improver course. You will have the opportunity to develop your skills focusing on elements such as composition, colour mixing and tone. Learning in a creative and relaxed way, you will explore various drawing techniques using charcoal, pencil and graphite pencils and develop a deeper understanding of painting through working on some longer, more sustained work as well as quicker, more gestural work. There will be 5 weeks of drawing followed by 5 weeks of painting.
This preparation also involves the students in the ‘IVC Core’, which sits at the heart of our curriculum, and ensures that students have access to the Arts, Sport, Languages and Humanities throughout their GCSE courses.
Course Aims:
- Develop skills in observation and non-observational work
- Broaden knowledge and development of skills in a variety of media
- Greater knowledge and understanding of art through the study of artists
- Be able to make conscious less accidental colour mixing and mark making
- Widen skills in composition and be able to work through different but related ideas

Pottery for beginners
Monday 21 September for 8 weeks; 7.00pm – 9.00pm; £110
Materials included
Try your hand at making beautiful creative objects out of clay. During this course, you will build knowledge of pottery processes, develop hand building skills and explore decorative techniques. Demonstrations and guidance is given throughout the course, from introducing basic hand skills through to one-to-one teaching on developing ideas and building your own unique pieces.
This course is suitable for beginners and those who wish to refresh their skills before progressing to the improver level.
Course Aims:
- Learn how to prepare clay for use and learn about maintenance of tools and equipment
- Introduce hand building techniques – slab modelling, press moulding, thumb and coil pots
- Gain practise in decorative techniques – eg. scraffito, scoring, relief, imprinting
- Gain practise in applying colour – slips and glazes
- Understand stages of pottery from green clay to finished piece
Extra Costs:
All materials are included in the cost. A small charge if large amount of clay used.
What you need to bring to the first session:
- A tea towel, cloth and apron
- Medium / large freezer bags
- Sketch / scrap book is recommended.

Pilates - mixed ability (Monday)
Monday 21 September for 10 weeks; 6.30pm – 7.30pm; £60
Tutor: Tasha Cooke
This course is suitable for beginners and those who have Pilates experience. Pilates can help develop core strength and stability. Improve mind and body awareness.
Different level options are given for the exercises, from easy to more challenging, to suit different level abilities. Although all fitness levels are welcome and exercises can be altered to suit existing injuries please be aware this is a standard fitness class, and basic movement ability is necessary.
Please speak to your GP before embarking on a new exercise programme. It is advisable that anyone with serious injuries consults their GP or physiotherapist.
Course Aims:
- Improve muscle tone
- Increase flexibility
- Improve posture and balance
- Strengthen back and abdominal muscles
- Reduce stress
Extra Costs:

- Loose comfortable clothing
- Exercise mat
- Bottle of water

Refunds
If you withdraw from a course before it finishes no refund will be given.
If due to illness you need to withdraw from a course, a refund for the remainder of the course will only be given on receipt of a Doctor’s certificate, which must be submitted promptly.
If for any reason a class is re-arranged (weather or illness of tutor) a refund is not available if you are unable to attend the re-arranged class. Re-arranged classes may need to be put on in the next term.
If you are unable to attend a class for your own reasons, no refund is available.
Cancellation
A full refund will be give if you cancel a booking more than 1 week before the start date.
Less than a week notice there is a £10 administration charge.
Less than 48 hours no refund will be given.
No refunds will be given if the course has started.
If Community Learning cancels a course/workshop a full refund will be given.
