IVC college exterior

Hear from the Principal 28.04.23

Thank you all for your understanding during the partial closure on Thursday 27 April. I hope you enjoy the first Bank Holiday of many in May. A gentle reminder that students are due back to the College on Wednesday 3 May.

Mathematical whizzes!

On 26 April, some of our Year 7 and 8 students represented the College in the United Kingdom Mathematics Trust’s (UKMT) Junior Mathematical Challenge. The hour long, multiple-choice challenge encourages mathematical reasoning, precision of thought, and fluency in mathematical techniques. The College has a history of success in the UKMT challenges and I would like to congratulate all of the students who took part in this year’s event.

German Teacher Award application

As an International Baccalaureate (IB) World School, international-mindedness is at the heart of the College ethos. Learning different languages helps our students to develop their intercultural understanding, and we are pleased to offer a wide range of languages to study, including Japanese, Latin, French, Italian, Spanish and German.

Our team of Language teachers work tirelessly to provide an engaging and exciting learning experience, and I am thrilled that a student has nominated Mrs Grimwood for the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany in London’s German Teacher Award. Mrs Grimwood was instrumental in establishing our German exchange programme with Kopernikus Gymnasium school and regularly enriches our students’ classroom learning experience through cultural games, food and celebrations. I wish her the best of luck!

Holocaust Educational Trust Auschwitz trip and reflections

Last month, six of our students took part in the Holocaust Educational Trust’s Lessons from Auschwitz Project. The educational and commemorative project offered students the opportunity to learn more about the Holocaust and included a one-day visit to the Auschwitz-Birkenau Memorial. This was the first visit for our students could physically take part in project since the pandemic. Since returning from Poland, everybody who took part has been reflecting on, and sharing, their experiences with the College community, highlighting the importance of international visits to connect classroom learning with real-world scenarios.

Year 13 Leavers’ Farewell

Earlier this week, senior staff hosted a farewell party in the Carnegie Room for our Year 13 leavers who have been with us since Year 7! We had a brilliant time reminiscing about their experiences at the College and celebrating the fantastic adults they have become. We are so proud of them, the destinations they are going on to (including Oxbridge and Russell Group universities) and we wish them every success over the next few weeks in their exams.

Join our team of educators

Due to our continued expansion and commitment to small class sizes, we are recruiting an English Teacher and a Mathematics Teacher to join our team of educators. If you, or someone you know, is looking to teach in an environment where: workload is taken seriously; teachers are given the support they need to develop; and CPD is a core priority, then we would love to hear from you.

Our trust, the Eastern Learning Alliance, is also hiring and is looking for a Science Technician to join its newest school – the Cambridge Maths School. The role will be supporting the Head of Science in delivering practical lessons and will be term-time only so may be suited to a parent or carer. Learn more here.
