Hear from the Principal 21.10.22

After a busy start to the year, I hope that you and your child(ren) enjoy the Half Term break, ready to return relaxed and refreshed to the College on Monday 31 October. A reminder of term dates can be found here.

Wilkommen!

Following a successful trip to Munich over the weekend, we were pleased to welcome students from Gernsheim Gymnasium to the College. During their time with us, the students experienced different types of lessons, enjoyed a treasure hunt around the village, and spent quality time with their exchange partners. Many of our students were lucky enough to spend time in Gernsheim last year through the Turing Scheme trips, and have enjoyed being able to host their peers in the UK this week.

Gulliver’s Travels (to Impington)

Live performances play an important role in our students’ learning, enhancing their ability to analyse and evaluate a piece, as well as developing their understanding of performance skills and techniques. Our GCSE and Sixth Form students benefit from a robust programme of activities including workshops, visits to the theatre and on-site touring performances; just last week our Year 9 to 13 Performing Arts students enjoyed a performance of ‘Gulliver’, presented by Box Tale Soup. The feedback we received following the show was hugely positive, and I know they are already looking forward to seeing another production at the College.

Debate

Debate and discussion are fundamental elements of the International Baccalaureate (IB); they enable our students to develop their confidence and foster a curiosity about the world around them. Thanks to the opportunities embedded in the Middle Years Programme (MYP) and offered through our iCAS clubs, our students have enjoyed great success in previous Parliamentary debate competitions, and Rotary Youth Speaks events.

Last week, our Year 11 students took part in a debate workshop hosted by South East Cambridgeshire MP, Lucy Frazer. It is always a pleasure to hear that our students are a credit to the College, and the workshop was no exception – well done to everybody who took part.

Sixth Form tours

I am pleased to see that many of you have been in contact to arrange a 1:1 tour of the Sixth Form following the Open Evening on 13 October. Each guided tour is an opportunity for you and your child to explore the facilities and gain a better understanding of IB programmes and how they support your child’s academic achievement. Places are limited so reservations are required; please email Valerie Hastings at to book your place.
