Hear from the Principal 16.11.20

COVID-19 Update

We have approximately ten students in our Sixth Form who have either tested positive for COVID-19 or are experiencing symptoms. As a precautionary measure and to minimise transmission in the wider College, we have isolated approximately 40 Sixth Form students across BTEC Sport, BTEC Performing Arts and our football programme. These students are accessing a combination of live and recorded lessons via Zoom and Microsoft Teams.

The zoning system is now in full swing in College and working well. Students are generally very good at wearing their face coverings, and we have been extremely grateful for the donation of a significant number of disposable masks from very kind parents. We would ask that you continue to ensure your child has a reusable face covering alongside a spare for College every day.

Mock Examinations

We continue to wish our Year 13 and Year 11 students luck in their mock examinations. We have been hugely impressed with everyone’s efforts so far!

This week in College

Our staff continuing professional development (CPD) focus this fortnight has been on two key areas: Middle Years Programme (MYP) preparation and Year 13 moderation. In MYP, staff have been addressing long term planning, including looking at the new interdisciplinary units for Year 7 and how we can embed high levels of challenge into our curriculum planning. This was led by MYP Co-ordinator Ms Trickey and our Lead Practitioner for the Most Able, Mr Jones, who also works extensively with NACE, the National Association for Able Children in Education. As well as their work on MYP, staff have been concentrating on moderating the Year 13 International Baccalaureate (IB) examinations, to ensure that marking across the College is consistent and accurate.

What is your role in College?

I am the Vice Principal: Pastoral, which involves a whole range of responsibilities, including the wellbeing and safety of all students, health and safety of the College and also line management of our foundation subjects.

How long have you been at IVC, and what did you do before you joined?

This is my 18th year at IVC! I joined as an NQT straight after graduating and completing my PGCE at Loughborough.

What do you like most about IVC?

I love working at IVC as it is truly inclusive and allows all students to thrive and develop both academically and socially in a nurturing yet driven environment.

What do you enjoy in your spare time?

My two passions are travelling and experiencing new sights, sounds, feelings and food, along with a love of all sports – both participating and watching. I have one guilty pleasure – musicals!
