Hear from the Principal 14.10.22

I was delighted to meet so many of you at our Open Evenings for the main College and Sixth Form on Wednesday and Thursday. We were proud to display the power of International Baccalaureate programmes, providing your child(ren) with the skills and knowledge they need to succeed at university and beyond.

Mental health matters

World Mental Health Day is recognised annually on 10 October to raise awareness of the importance of mental health and promote best practice to support individuals who may be struggling. Student wellbeing is at the heart of everything we do at the College, and I am proud that our commitment to this focus has been recognised with a number of accolades including the Carnegie Medal for Mental Health.

Your child(ren) can access mental health support in a number of ways including in-house mentoring support, a school chaplain and YMCA counselling.

Music to my ears

Like many of you, I watched this week’s BBC Young Musician of the Year 2022 competition with keen interest as our former student, Jordan Ashman, impressed the judges with his skills. As a student, Jordan’s passion and commitment to his music was evident and I was thrilled that he was crowned the BBC Young Musician 2022 following his success in the percussion final. Huge congratulations to Jordan from everyone at the College.

A royally good visit to Framlingham Castle

Last week, our GCSE History students enjoyed a visit to Framlingham Castle as part of the ‘History Around Us’ element of their studies. From studying the famous Howard chimneys to the remains of the curtain wall and the Poor House, each student was able to examine physical historical features of the English Heritage site to enhance their learning and deepen their understanding of Tudor history. I was delighted to hear the positive feedback about our students excellent behaviour and engagement with the topic during their time onsite; they were a credit to themselves and the College.

Sixth Form tours

We understand that choosing a Sixth Form is a difficult decision, with multiple considerations to take into account. Following the success of our Sixth Form Open Evening on 13 October, we are offering guided tours for you and your child to explore the facilities, and gain a better understanding of IB programmes and how they support your child’s academic achievement. Places are limited so reservations are required; please email Valerie Hastings on to book your place.
