IVC college exterior

Hear from the Principal 14.01.22

I am delighted to welcome our students back to the College following their Winter break – I hope they enjoyed their well-deserved rest and are reenergised to tackle the term ahead.

The future is bright, the future is Oxford

I was thrilled to learn that three of our students who applied to study at the University of Oxford have received offers this week. Congratulations to Gregory M., who received an offer to read History, Jonathan K. to read Mathematics and Computer Sciences and Elliot B. to read English and Classics.  The offers reflect the hard work of each student as well as the quality of their applications – they should be tremendously proud of their achievements.

It’s (not) a hard knock life

The countdown is on until our students take to the boards in the upcoming performance of Annie, the musical. Following their return to the College, our talented Year 7 to 13 students have been busy with rehearsals for the musical, which is due to take place in February, and I know they are tremendously excited to show you the results of their hard work and collaboration.

Shogatsu (Japanese New Year)

Fostering a sense of global community is fundamental to us here at the College so it was a pleasure to see the first multicultural forum of the year so well attended. More than 50 students from all year groups took part in the culture session on 6 January, which focused on the history and significance of Japanese New Year. With our close links to Japan, through our partner school in Morioka, students feel a connection to the culture and are always enthusiastic to learn more about their peers in Asia.

Programming the future

As you know, we are preparing to rollout 1:1 devices for all our students, starting with Year 7 in September 2022, to support them with their learning. Our pilot scheme launched this term with a number of Year 7 students trialling brand-new Chromebooks, fully secured and programmed with educational apps, for use in lessons and at-home learning. Students and staff have received training on how to use their device and we will be offering support sessions to parents with details to follow.

Thinking about the future?

If you and your child(ren) are still considering post-16 options, I wanted to remind you that the deadline for MyChoice16 applications for our Sixth Form, Impington International College, is quickly approaching. Some of our Year 12 students, who are currently studying at IIC, have shared their advice and Sixth Form experience to help students understand more about what to expect if they choose to attend IIC. Read their blog posts here and keep your eyes peeled on our Instagram channel for a special surprise from one of our Sixth Form students.
