Impington Sports Centre requires a qualified Fitness Consultant to cover a sickness absence up to September 2016 with the potential for further work beyond that.  You will have a passion for excellent customer service, to be able to create an inspirational environment where people matter, results count and a passion for excellence drives everything we do.

Duties will include teaching group exercise classes, taking members through their fitness journey, member interaction and maintaining clean and safe facilities. Our fitness team are also required to take a pro-active role in sales and retention activities.

The post is offers a working potential of up to 37 hours per week which includes a varied shift pattern of morning, evening and weekend shifts on a three week rota.  You will also have the opportunity to undertake further hours working as a Personal Trainer.

You will hold a minimum of a Level 2 Fitness Qualification, qualified to teach Studio Cycling Classes and experience of delivering first class customer service to a diverse client base.

Job Description

Post Title: Fitness Consultant
Post Purpose:. To work as part of a team in the day to day operation and development of the Fitness Studio and fitness classes to ensure the highest level of customer service
Reporting to: Fitness Manager
Liaising with: Duty Officers, Fitness Staff, Sports Coaches & Lifeguards
Working time: The work arrangement, to be agreed by the manager will reflect the shift requirements of the position. The shift arrangements may include evening and weekend and public holiday/extra statutory duties.

  1. Main Responsibilities
    To assist in the Assistant Manager in the implementation of daily operational procedures to ensure the delivery of a high standard of customer service in all areas of the fitness studio’s operations and the fitness class programme. Supervise the Fitness Studio to ensure the safety of all members and to give appropriate support, advice and help whenever they are in the studio. To be responsible for safeguarding and promoting the welfare of students and to ensure that teaching and learning takes place in a safe environment. Perform one to one fitness assessments, personal programmes, sports specific programmes, group inductions, one to one inductions, and facility tours. Ensure all equipment is regularly inspected, cleaned and maintained to the highest standard in the Fitness Studio. Ensure the Fitness Studio is kept in a clean condition at all times. Assist the Assistant Manager as required with development and promotional projects for both the Fitness Studio and fitness class programme. Support reception and other sports centre staff as required. To advise and sell membership packages and undertake the necessary administration. Serve drinks and snacks in the Cafe Undertaking other tasks that may be required from time to time to ensure the efficient operation of the facility.

Fitness Instructor 

Impington Sports Centre are looking for reliable, enthusiastic and energetic fitness instructors to join the team teaching various classes and instructing on the gym floor.

If you have a qualification that allows you to lead and teach fitness classes, level 2 gym instructor or level 3 Personal Trainer we want to hear from you!

We are looking for fitness instructors to help us deliver an outstanding service to our members. We want to hear from you if you have any experience or qualifications to teach fitness sessions such as Studio Cycling, Pilates, Zumba, Boxercise. We also want to hear from you if you can offer sessions we do not already have on our timetable.

We are looking for individuals to cover holidays, illness and times that the business experiences higher usage. Occasionally we may also need cover on the gym floor delivering inductions and ensure an outstanding presentation of service.

Casual Lifeguards 

Impington Sports Centre requires Swimming Pool Lifeguards to work in our popular Sports Centre.  The posts are available for daytime, evening and weekend work.  Salary is £7.30 per hour plus holiday pay.

You will need to hold a current RLSS Pool Lifeguard qualification and be available to attend a 2 hour training session once a month on a Tuesday evening.

We offer a varied swimming programme from Lane Swimming through to Fun Sessions.  Candidates must be able to communicate well with both adults and children with an emphasis on safety and customer care.

2.         Main Responsibilities

  • To assist in the efficient and effective operation of Sports Centre and to establish and maintain good relationships with the general public, ensuring that an appropriate ambience is maintained in the facility, making customers feel welcomed and valued
  • Maintains a constant concentrated surveillance of the Swimming Pool; acts immediately and appropriately to ensure all customers comply with the ISC Swimming Pool Rules. Carries out immediate action to caution swimmers regarding unsafe practices and safety hazards to prevent potential incidents occurring
  • Responds quickly to follow the Emergency Action Plan and procedures established in the event of an emergency.  Provide emergency care and First Aid as required until the arrival of emergency medical services
  • Presents a professional appearance and attitude at all times.  Educates swimmers to inform them of the purpose and need for pool rules and regulations
  • To undertake basic clerical and administrative duties, as required
  • To assist in the communication and promotion of the centre's services and activities ensuring all information given is correct and up to date

Swimming Instructors 

Impington Sports Centre requires Swimming Teachers to work in our popular Sports Centre. The posts are available for daytime, evening and weekend work. Salary is £20.02 per hour.

You will need to hold the ASA/STA Level 2 Certificate for Teaching Swimming.

We offer a varied group swimming lesson programme from Under 5’s Non Swimmers through to Adults improving their technique. There are also opportunities to teach on a one to one basis at various times throughout the week. The successful candidates should be able to communicate well with both adults and children with an emphasis on learning, safety, customer care and enjoyment.

As a Swimming Instructor the post holder will be required to deliver effective coaching/teaching sessions and will assist the Operations Manager in the development and delivery of the Swimming programme

Main Responsibilities

  1. To teach within the Centre’s Swimming Lesson Programme
    To undertake teaching duties as allocated to ensure high quality experiences for all participants,
    To lead classes for all age groups from infants to adults,
    To use the National / ISC Swimming Lesson syllabus as the framework for all classes,
    Ensure that all classes operate within the ISC’s Health and Safety guidelines,
    To work closely with the Operations Manager in the delivery of the classes,
    To wear appropriate poolside clothing at all times,
    To be ready on poolside 10 minutes prior to the start of the lesson and to remain 5 minutes afterwards to ensure poolside is tidy,
    To report any accidents immediately and to provide a written report to the Operations Manager using the appropriate forms,
    To be aware of the Child Protection Policy and reporting procedures.
  2. To ensure that all administrative procedures are carried out in conjunction with the Operations Manager
    To provide weekly lesson plans for all classes prior to the start of the teaching term,
    Ensure that all lessons are progressive according to the programme,

    Ensure that holiday requests are submitted with sufficient warning to enable a substitute teacher to be allocated,
