 BALLROOM DANCING FOR BEGINNERS

Wednesday 24 January for 8 weeks

8.00pm – 9.00pm

£40 / £30 concession

Brief Description:

This course is suitable for learners with basic ballroom dancing skills.  If you enjoy dancing to music, want to get fitter and would like to feel more comfortable and confident moving around a dance floor, then this course is for you.

Learn ballroom and Latin American dances including Waltz, Foxtrot, Quickstep, Tango, Cha Cha, Samba, Rumba, Jive.

Course Aims:

  • Introduce basic ballroom and Latin American dance steps
  • Learn about the origins of each dance and the music, counting in beats according to the time signature of the dance.
  • Improve fitness
  • Gain confidence

Extra Costs:

What you need to bring to the first session:

Comfortable clothes

Shoes with a back in to support the heel (trainers are too grippy)

Bottle of water

 BALLROOM DANCING FOR IMPROVERS

Wednesday 24 January for 8 weeks

7.00pm – 8.00pm

Brief Description:

This course is suitable for learners who have developed the necessary steps and knowledge to progress to an improver level

If you enjoy dancing to music, want to get fitter and would like to feel more comfortable and confident moving around a dance floor, then this course is for you.

Ballroom and Latin American dances - Waltz, Foxtrot, Quickstep, Tango, Cha Cha, Samba, Rumba, Jive.

Course Aims:

  • Gain further confidence in Ballroom and Latin American dancing
  • Build upon existing knowledge of dance routines and introduce new steps
  • Learn about the origins of each dance and the music, counting in beats according to the time signature of the dance.
  • Improve fitness

 GUITAR FOR BEGINNERS (TERM 2)

Wednesday 21 February for 15 weeks

6.45pm – 7.45pm

£75

Brief Description:

This course is entering its second term and is suitable for anyone who has been learning acoustic guitar for at least one term.  Learners will be asked to speak to the Tutor in advance and attend the first session to see if the level is suitable for them.

Learners would benefit from practicing / playing up to 4hrs per week – but not necessarily in one session or block.

Course Aims:

  • Develop an understanding of the structure(s) of western music - the diatonic system
  • Demonstrate the basic use of a plectrum to accompany a song
  • Demonstrate a simple patterned finger pick to accompany a song
  • Be able to play a simple solo guitar piece
  • Be able to play along with a simple song in a group format

GUITAR FOR IMPROVERS (TERM 2)

Wednesday 21 February for 15 weeks

8.00pm – 9.00pm

£75

Brief Description:

This course is entering its second term and is suitable for anyone who has been learning acoustic guitar for at least one year.  Learners will be asked to speak to the Tutor in advance and attend the first session to see if the level is suitable for them.

Learners should have an understanding of the workings of the diatonic system and possess sufficient technique to demonstrate both a patterned finger pick and effective, basic use of a plectrum on a song or tune

Learners would benefit from practicing / playing up to 4hrs per week – but not necessarily in one session or block.

Course Aims:

  • Expand knowledge of the diatonic scale / chord system
  • Demonstrate the use of altered chords within the context of group playing, as well as playing relevant scales ‘freestyle’ over popular pieces of music.
  • Work towards playing a more chalenging and complex solo piece
  • Work towards recognising commonly used chord sequences and play along with others on a more 'advanced' chord progression.

 UKULELE FOR ALL

Monday 22 January for 8 weeks

6.15pm – 7.15pm

£40

Brief Description:

In a relaxed, fun and encouraging environment, you’ll learn the basic techniques of ukulele playing as well as some well-known songs to practise with.

This course is suitable for absolute beginners and those wishing to further develop their skills.  Please contact the Office if you would like to be put in contact with the Tutor.

Learners would benefit from practicing / playing up to 2hrs per week – but not necessarily in one session or block.

Course Aims:

  • Develop an understanding of the structure(s) of western music - the diatonic system and it’s relevant chords
  • Introduce plucking and picking techniques to enhance both group and solo playing
  • Be able to play a selection of songs / tunes on the ukulele

What you need to bring to the first session:

You will need to bring your own ukulele.  It must be in good playing order.
