Impington Village College

Sport and Education Collaborate

Impington International Sixth Form has signed an agreement to support and teach the young men successful in obtaining a place on Histon FC Scholarship programme.

Over the last 20 years Impington International Sixth Form has established itself as a high quality provider of Post 16 education for local students in the Cambridge area
and international students from the European Union. Likewise, Histon FC has over the last 5 years developed a very successful Football Scholarship programme providing high quality football development and educational opportunities for young men from the Cambridge area and the East of England.

These two institutions, a matter of metres apart, are delighted to have signed a joint venture to ensure that scholars aged 16 to 19 at Histon FC will have the opportunity
to not only develop their football skills and enhance their opportunities of securing a future in the sport, but also will be able to engage with a rigorous bespoke academic programme of learning that will ensure they are equipped for life outside of football
and have the ability to access university and employment.

Ryan Kelsall, Vice Principal Impington Village College said, “We believe this is a unique opportunity for young men who wish to continue their football development in a formal professional environment to also gain the academic qualifications that will ensure future opportunities such as university entry are available to them. This is an exclusive offer that we believe is not available through other football scholarship programmes.”

Histon Scholarship learners will have the opportunity to join an academic pathway encompassing A-Levels, BTEC programmes or the International Baccalaureate accessing the whole range of academic courses that Impington International Sixth Form has to offer. Recruitment to the 2016 scholarship programme will begin next month with Brian Page, Manager of Histon FC and Ryan Kelsall, Vice Principal of Impington Village College, interviewing and selecting students who meet the footballing and academic criteria for the Histon FC Scholars programme.
