Year 10 Footballers Crowned District Cup Champions

The Year 10 football team were crowned District Cup champions after an entertaining final against Chesterton. Following established performances against The Manor and Melbourne, the boys went into the final full of confidence but also knowing that this would be the toughest game of the competition by some way. The game was played at Linton Village College on there 3G astroturf on the hottest day of the year, water breaks were scheduled into each half and the size of the pitch meant that both teams were always going to create opportunities to score.

We started brightly and took the lead after 20 minutes through Aidan Course after some intelligient and patient build up play. Chesterton then scored either side of half time to take the lead before Aidan Course levelled with 10 minutes to go following great work from Ben Wilkanowski. The game looked destined to head to extra time and the players were all using whatever energy they had left within them to grab a late goal. With 2 minutes left, Mark Coulson struck a diagonal free kick to find Ben Wilkanowski at the far post, he then headed the ball back across goal to Adam Corcoran whose shot was handballed off the line by a Chesterton defender. Aidan Course stepped up to complete his hatrick from the spot, sending the keeper the wrong way and completing a successful season for the Year 10 team. The boys have shown a lot of commitment this year and numbers at training have been fantastic. All are now looking forward to a successful National Cup run next year.
